Hi there 😊

Billiard balls that has the lines and swirls of ivory grain seen through the color is a kind of striation that might indicate that the balls in question are ivory. If it does not have this it only means that the ball is made from phenolic resin.

Prior to 1870s, early 20th century such as 1920s through the 1930s there is a great chance that these are made of ivory but, much later than that these are not real ivory but substitutes.

Here is a guide on how to tell genuine ivory

Hi there 😊

It would be best to check out this article.

Rainbow colored calcite can be mistaken for ivory. This does not mean that the ball that you posted could be calcite though. Which is why you have to double check this out with a local ivory seller.

Looking just at the picture, without the identification of it as a pool ball, I'd guess it was a Bennington marble or carpet ball which were made of pottery and could be extremely valuable. They were made in the 1800's.
