Compare #VanGogh & #DiegoVoci

Each artist captured pathways through nature on canvas. Van Gogh painted on the scene. Diego Voci painted by memory. Van Gogh had #Gauguin by his side. Diego Voci had his wife Helga by his side. Van Gogh took 4 days. Diego Voci took 2 days. Van Gogh's "L'Allee des Alyscamps" is 92cm x 73.5cm, Diego Voci's "Der Spaziergang" is 81cm x 61cm. Van Gogh's "L'Allee des Alyscamps" just sold on May 6, 2015 for $66 million. What price should be for this Diego Voci "Der Spaziergang"?

Go to www.diegovociproject.com and send an email with your estimate for this Diego Voci "Der Spaziergang" painting.

HOW DIEGO BECAME DIEGO

Diego Voci, who was known as Diego to his friends, was not known as Diego on his works of art until 1965-66 when Canadian art dealer, Joy Naffouj discovered the essence of who Diego was. Joy encouraged him to start signing his art "DIEGO", formerly signed some form of Voci. For example, the gift to JFK in June 1963 was signed D. Voci.

"Light" is an example of the earliest of that Naffouj / Diego relationship when Joy and Dr. Jawdat Naffouj in Germany became Diego's exclusive agent. Dr. Naffouj operates a gallery in Landstuhl, Germany to this day.

"Light" 33 ¾" X 23 ¾" oil canvas

Joy Naffouj liked this painting "Light" so well it was put aside for Joy's own private collection. See the inscription in her hand upon the back coarse canvas.
NOTE: GOOGLE has selected several Diego Voci images from those posted on Artifact Collectors! See them by clicking "Images" on Google under "Diego Voci".

SOLD $500 "FISHER PEOPLE" BY DIEGO VOCI

Helga Voci, widow of internationally collected artist Diego Voci said:

"Diego played cards with the Fishermen"

Diego specialized in portraying the common people. Diego with Helga at his side would seek out places to purposely live among them. Fisher People #1591-9, 41" x 30" oil on canvas

This painting is one of the very first when the signature "Diego" was applied to his canvas. How do we know?

1. Joy Gibson was a Canadian art dealer based in Zweibrucken, Germany. Her stamp is on the back of the canvas.

2. Joy was the one who influenced the artist to start signing "Diego" the nickname he was known by (formerly he signed some form of Voci as on the painting given to JFK in 1963 in Wiesbaden).

3. This was before Joy married Dr. Jawdat Naffouj and added his last name to hers. Naffouj Gallery remains to this day in Landstuhl, Germany.

Stay alert. A Diego Voci painting may appear anywhere. This one was donated to Goodwill and just auctioned at $500.

I believe this painting comes from the same time period and maybe the same gallery as my Spanish Shepherd that I purchased at the Ramstein Officers Club sometime between 1967 and 1969. You have a copy of the front and back of my painting. I would like to find out what mine is worth.

Goodwill Auctions Diego Voci Painting

Goodwill in DC just brought the hammer down on Diego's "Man from Felde" at $686. Another bargain! People who know are buying from people who don't know. That won't last long with the resuscitation of Diego's life and artwork spreads on the internet. Google "Diego Voci".

This Diego painting is from the same mid-sixties as the piece "Fisher People" donated to Goodwill in DC and auctioned a week earlier. Link http://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-painting-of-the-week-5154118/Page10.html#274

Yes, Annalisa, feel free to capture the image for your wall in Painting of the Week Post #272 http://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-painting-of-the-week-5154118/Page10.html#272. In time, we will get a clearer image. The paint is so glossy that the rough texture of the heavy burlap based canvas reflected some of the available light causing the image to look a bit faded.

The policy of the Diego Voci Estate is to allow republishing of images to further the awareness of Diego's great body of work, for example, Wikipedia requested written authorization from Diego's widow, Helga Voci, to include various images in the biography, Antonio Diego Voci, and are available to the public.

What would not be allowed is an artist faking a Diego for sale using his name or reprinting for profit. It has happened.

#DIEGOVOCI'S "THE WHITE HORSE" HAS TRAVELED THE WORLDThe White Horse, #683 80x60cm oil on canvas

The provenance is a source of credibility to the life of a painting.

"The White Horse" by Diego Voci began with Diego himself and then was placed into the hands of Naffouj Gallery in Germany, Diego's representation at the time during the late 1960's. Diego's works of art during his contract with Naffouj Gallery was often identified by the wood wedges used in the stretcher bars.

"The White Horse" traveled back to Diego's hands in the 1970's (as it was placed in a frame that Diego's wife, Helga Voci, made for the piece). The painting in 1973 was in an exhibition in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the famous Broadmoor Resort sponsored and hosted by Dr. Ogden Brown Family.

After the exhibition, "The White Horse" traveled back to Diego's hands in Germany then flew to Edmonton, Canada in 1981. Stephen Max acquired the painting as Diego's representor for Canadian collectors in Stephen's Goldcrest gallery. "The White Horse" was purchased by art collectors Giselle and George Dean of Edmonton, AB, Canada and this is where the painting has been ever since.

To learn more search "Diego Voci" on Google and YouTube.

"NEW GENERATION" - DISCOVERING #DIEGOVOCI GOLD – PART ONE

Proof is here. The magnetism of DIEGO VOCI art can be transferred to a "New Generation".

Diego Voci died in 1985 of lung cancer. His great body of artwork has endured 30-50 years, largely unknown except to many of his original addicted collectors who bought many. They displayed them, enjoyed them and hoarded them for decades. Now these devoted collectors are dead, dying and or downsizing and Diego's works are popping up everywhere at bargain prices. Keep your eyes open! Google "Diego Voci" to familiarize yourself with DIEGO.

Enter Brad Fairchild, Graphic Designer and Photographer. His parents met Diego personally. Cheryl and Dan Fairchild bought 3 DIEGO Lithographs in the 1970's while in Germany. They found their first original Diego Voci oil painting in the US on e-bay: https://diegovociproject.wordpress.com/2015/07/08/potential-diegovoci-model-kicking-herself/

Their son Brad has a sharp eye. Here is the Diego Voci masterwork he discovered at an Estate Sale under $1,000. Genuine #gold leaf is inlayed, similar to the techniques used by Gustav #Klimt with the famous #WomaninGold. "Madonna" Oil on Canvas (38.5x22.5). WP 11 JULY 2015

SEE HALF CENTURY OLD #LOBSTER - "DINING WITH DIEGO" PART 4Owned by Francesco Daneluzzi, this LOBSTER by DIEGO, worn by time, smoke, and vapors - has survived on the walls of Pizzeria FIRENZE in #Kaiserslautern, Germany also known as K-Town. The LOBSTER, over 40 years old, is about the length of time Francesco knew #Diego until his passing in 1985.

Francesco recalls Diego as, "an artist and a true gentleman. I will never forget him." He also said, "Diego loved eating #Pasta. I enjoyed serving him very much. He was always very pleasant." (Ich habe ihn sehr gerne bedient. Er war immer sehr nett und hat sehr gerne Pasta gegessen. Er war ein artista und ein wahrer signore. Ich werde ihn nie vergessen.)

Today, at FIRENZE, you can still view the many DIEGO artworks Francesco has kept for his patrons, some who knew Diego and some who are now seeing his work for the first time. Search for Pizzeria FIRENZE on Facebook! Trivia for today: Coop Cooprider, Diego Voci Historian since 1973, vividly remembers that Lobster on the wall over the years. The Cooprider family of 9 used to go for Francesco's Pizzeria FIRENZE and order his Pizza with Salami! To die for. Patti had carbonnara and Coop loved the gnocci. I remember it well! Kami Cooprider

FBI FINDS ART LOOT CALDER, KANDINSKY AND DIEGO VOCI

"More than 1,000 pieces of artwork at a storage facility the fugitive rented in Boulder City, about 25 miles east of Las Vegas."

This money laundering scam artist obviously knew his art selecting works of well-known masters that would be redeemable for cash at some future date.

The warrant search at the storage facility was an effort to recover proceeds on behalf of alleged fraud victims.

Artwork by Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky is loaded onto a truck during a seizure in Boulder City, Nevada, about 20 miles southeast of Las Vegas, July 27, 2012.Artwork by American Alexander Calder

#CUBISM JUAN GRIS AND DIEGO VOCI
MANDOLINS and GUITARS

Love for Music often brought instruments into the art of Juan Gris and Diego Voci.

Diego Voci's Tempera Artist Studio (100 cm x 75cm) is one of 30 DIEGO artworks owned by Stephen and Wendy Max of Edmonton, Alberta. They exclusively represented Diego in Canada from 1981 until Diego's untimely death in 1985. Diego even visited them:

SOLD: MODIGLIANI $42 MILLION
DIEGO VOCI (TM) ESTATE OFFERS "VISAGE DE FILLE"(left) Diego Voci's "Visage de Fille" 11" x14", oil on board. Diego Voci (1920-1985)

(right) Amedeo Modigliani's "Portrait de Paulette Jourdain," c. 1919, which sold at Sotheby's for $42.8 million.

Persons attracted to Modigliani are also drawn to the magnetism of artist DIEGO VOCI (TM). This small Diego is part of the DIEGO VOCI (TM) ESTATE.

Link to www.diegovociproject.com; click "Acquire Originals".

About the $42 million Modigliani:
"There were plenty of big-ticket lots peppered throughout the evening, highlighted in large part by Amedeo Modigliani's beautiful and almost prim seated portrait "Paulette Jourdain," from circa 1919, which sold to an anonymous telephone bidder for the top lot price of $42,810,000 (est. upon request in excess of $25 million). The unidentified, silver-haired under bidder sat in the fourth row of the salesroom, wedged between two blonde companions and sipping white wine during the bidding. The pony-tailed sitter in the painting was the maid and later companion/lover of Leopold Zborowski, Modigliani's Paris dealer. The work was last exhibited in "Modigliani and His Models" at the Royal Academy of Arts, London in 2006. It was one of Modigliani's last portraits before his death in 1920 and Taubman acquired the work from the Acquavella Galleries in 1983, the same year he acquired Sotheby's with the help of several private investors, including Henry Ford II."

HUNGER FOR MORE Diego Voci SPARKS A SEARCH

On the last day of 2015 Kami of the Diego Voci (TM) Project (DVP) staff saw a post on Jacqueline's Facebook page. An Diego Voci oil painting titled La Lecture that was purchased directly from Diego in Ramstein, Germany: "La Lecture" Oil on Canvas, 31" x 23.5" (#5541001)

"It was in 1975 ... a lifetime ago. I bought that painting as an investment painting hoping that someday he would be well-known. I paid $300.00 for it at the time. I still have his brochure from then. Didn't get an autograph but I should have, huh?"

Jacqueline also remembers,

"Diego was a very quiet soft spoken man. Diego and I conversed. We talked about his Indian paintings and his trip to New Mexico. I remember telling him he looked like the American Indian and he said, 'Yes people say that'. Diego also mentioned how he really liked our Southwest. We spoke of the similarity to parts of Spain and Italy. I was struck by the artworks he had on display and Diego himself more than anything else."

But, Jacqueline wanted more !

"I also wanted another which was a lady with a big red hat. I wanted both but could only afford one. It was exquisite and although I love the one I have. I have never forgotten her."

Kami said, "That reminds me of a Diego I think I have seen. I'll try to find it." Kami searched through hundreds of images in the DiegoVoci(TM) Archive until she found a woman in a red hat and sent the image to Jacqueline:
Bingo. "Yes, thats her!"

FOUND: A 61 YEAR OLD DiegoVoci(TM) PAINTING

"Diego Voci was close to my dad and mom, Coop and Patti. I am one of their 6 daughters: Gabrielle. We were raised in Germany and met Diego several times while living there.

In September, 2015, I took a trip to Germany and visited Kaiserslautern, Ramstein AFB, Landstuhl, Weilerbach, and Erfenbach where I lived - it was the last #Cooprider home in Germany. My parents moved to the United States.

While in Landstuhl I stopped in to say "Hello" to Jawdat Naffouj at the #Naffouj Gallery, where many DiegoVoci(TM) Collectors bought their Diegos. I babysat Jawdat's children Alia and Jabby when I was younger, so I saw Diego a lot - he even taught me card tricks.

Jawdat said, "I have something special to show you that your dad has never seen". Jawdat took time to show me what he believes is a self-portrait by Diego done in 1955. What do you think?Diego signed the painting in red "D Voci". Jawdat told me it was one of his very "proud possessions" that he was sharing with me. He sees the oil painting as a very precious belonging and has no plans to let go of it. Joy (nee Gibson) Naffouj and Jawdat were the representatives who convinced 'Antonio Diego Voci' to only sign Diego, which he did from 1966 until his death December 10, 1985.

My dad, Coop, has been the DiegoVoci(TM) Historian since 1973. He wrote the "Antonio Diego Voci" biography for Wikipedia. He said in Diego's earliest years he signed only a red Voci often with a line under the red." - Gabriella Sloane (Cooprider) Sillas

Send the DiegoVoci(TM)Project your story! Did you meet Jawdat Naffouj? Siegfried Dahms? Joy Gibson? Christine Khan? Or did you meet Helga and Diego? What did he say? And do? The DVP would like to share with Diego Aficionados!

Have you taken the tour of the Museum? Less than 5 minutes and you will see just a sampling of Diego's masterpieces:

FRED CURLEY KNEW #ARTIST #DIEGOVOCI(TM)

A DiegoVoci(TM) Collector, Fred Curley, once worked for Jawdat Naffouj at the Naffouj Gallery in Landstuhl, Germany from 1969-71.
The Naffouj Gallery once upon a time was the revolving door for DiegoVoci(TM) paintings. As Diego shipped them to gallery from one country to the next capturing human emotions on canvas along the way, those paintings were quickly acquired by collectors of all kinds.

Fred Curley, orchestrated exhibitions for Naffouj Gallery at most all of the Military Officer's clubs and Embassy's in Belgium.

Fred Curley was the source behind the success of sold DiegoVoci(TM) works that are still in the hands of the original collectors. In Fred's words:

"DiegoVoci(TM) had quite a following and everyone looked forward to my next show to see his new work. I had the fortune of personally getting to know DiegoVoci(TM) from working at the Gallery. I remember watching Diego paint and everyone sitting around joking drinking good wine and eating cheese."

"I have always dreamed of opening my own Gallery when I retire and have the opportunity to offer some great works of art that I had a chance to see and enjoy as a young man. I still travel to Germany and stop in to see Jawdat Naffouj when I am there. The Naffouj Gallery is still there and Jawdat looks good and still has many DiegoVoci (graphics), Diedter Grants and also Pallucci's in his Gallery. I, myself, own a Diego of a Madonna and Child that I personally watched him paint." Image (above) of Jawdat Naffouj 2012.

The DiegoVoci(TM) Project thanks Fred Curley for sharing his own personal experience with DiegoVoci(TM).

How fortunate for Fred Curley to share so much time with Diego, the man. Also to personally possess a canvas Fred watched him create, one of Diego's estimated 4,000 oil paintings. Are there any photos? Please contact us at the DiegoVoci(TM) Project website. We hope to receive images of your Diego works of art.

PAUL GAUGUIN: WHICH PAINTING?If you thought it was the bottom one you would not be alone. The top painting that sold on February 28, 2017 for $25 million dollars at Christie's in London is not the typical bold style Gauguin is known for (Google "Gauguin images").

The lower painting is by Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985) from the private collection of Patti and Coop Cooprider. Google has selected a few dozen of Diego Voci art works for display in their gallery of Diego Voci Images. Google "Diego Voci" and click "Images".

Also take a museum tour on YouTube https://youtu.be/GG5Jl-2FuXM

We are the Diego Voci Project, an all volunteer group assisting the Diego Voci Estate spreading the awareness of the great internationally collected artist Diego Voci and cataloging all of Diego Voci's works of art in the Estate's Archive.
